Conducting Literary Research at USF

This guide highlights the resources available at the University of South Florida's Tampa Library for the study of African American literature. Click on the tabs above to find books, articles, databases, and reference works.

Finding Books:

To locate books by or about African American authors at the USF Library, check the catalog. For additional tips on finding books by and about African American authors and literature, click on the books tab.

Finding Criticism:

To find journal articles or book-length critical works, use one of USF's article databases that allow you to search many journals at once. For additional tips on finding criticism as well as a list of the top peer-reviewed journals dedicated to African American literary study, click on the articles tab. If you already have a citation for a specific journal article, check the library's list of e-journals to see if electronic access is available; if it is not, also check the catalog for print holdings.

Finding Biographical and Bibliographical Information:

To find biographical information on African American authors, click on the authors & biographies tab above. For bibliographies and checklists of authors, click on the reference resources tab.

Finding Web Resources:

To find quality websites devoted to African American literature and culture, click on the websites tab.
