Best Practices for Subject/Course/General LibGuides at USF

Friendly URLs

Friendly URLs make it easy to quickly see and understand the purpose of the guide. For example, /g=46515&p=365289 is not intuitive but guides.lib.usf.edu/browzine carries meaning.

  • Friendly URLs should always be lowercase.
  • Don't use spaces! Combine multiple words into one word.
  • Friendly URLs for course guides should use the course number AND campus abbreviation of tam, stp, or sar (e.g. guides.lib.usf.edu/mmc2100stp)
  • Friendly URLs for course guides for special topics courses should consist of the course prefix, number, and title (e.g. enc4930feministpedagogy)
