CHARGE: The Committee on Committees (COC) is responsible for advising the Faculty Senate Executive Committee and the Faculty Senate on matters including:

  1. Identifying and recommending faculty from USF Tampa who are both qualified and willing to serve on the standing councils of the USF Tampa Faculty Senate and USF System-wide councils and committees.

    The COC shall solicit nominations for all regular vacancies in the fall and spring semesters. Other vacancies will be filled as they occur. The COC shall vet the nominations and the most qualified nominations for service shall be forwarded to the Provost's Office for consultation and then put before the Senate Executive Committee and Faculty Senate. Approved nominations will be appointed by the President of the Faculty Senate.  Representatives for USF System Councils from USF St. Petersburg and USF Sarasota-Manatee will be vetted at their home institutions, and the nominations will be forwarded by the COC to the relevant office for appointment.

  2. Conducting periodic reviews of the charges of standing councils of the Faculty Senate and working with the councils to amend those charges as necessary.
  3. Encouraging faculty involvement in university governance.
  4. Advising and consulting with the Faculty Senate Executive Committee, when appropriate, on other matters dealing with the standing councils of the Faculty Senate.

MEMBERSHIP:

  1. All members of the COC shall also be currently serving as Senators. The term of office shall be one year. Senators may succeed themselves on the COC. Membership shall consist of one Senator from each college, campus, or other voting unit of the Faculty Senate and will be solicited for via e-mail and at Faculty Senate meetings.
  2. It is the responsibility of the members of the COC to solicit faculty from the unit they represent to fill vacancies on councils and committees in the fall and spring and as they occur throughout the year.

CHAIR:

The chair shall be appointed by the President of the Faculty Senate annually with approval of the Senate Executive Committee. The chair-elect shall assume office in the fall term; however, should business need to be conducted during the summer and the current chair is unavailable, the chair-elect may assume that responsibility.

The chair also serves as a member of the Faculty Senate Executive Committee and, in recognition of the responsibilities associated with service, is granted one three-hour course assignment off-load during the academic year. That off-load is reimbursed to the unit in which the chair resides by the Office of the Provost.

It is the responsibility of the chair to:

  1. Orient the Senators serving on the COC to their role and responsibilities during the first meeting in the fall term.
  2. Convene regular meetings of the COC and conduct business in a timely fashion.
  3. Attend the meetings of the Faculty Senate Executive Committee.
  4. Report on matters pertaining to the COC at the meetings of the Faculty Senate Executive Committee and meetings of the Faculty Senate.
