Fundacion Archivo de Indianos, Asturias, Spain In August 2002, The Fundacion Archivo de Indianos and University of South Florida Library System signed a general agreement of cooperation to advance the study of Asturian emigration to America and the lives of Asturian immigrants in Tampa. The agreement provides for the reciprocal exchange of archival materials, offers long-term loan of duplicates of original materials, exchanges published works on Asturians in Spain and the U.S., and creates and promotes joint cultural activities and exhibitions. Over the last several years, the Fundacion and USF Library System have visited each other's institutions, participated together in a conference on Asturian-American migration, and exchanged collections and monographs. In May 2007 Florida Studies Center director Mark Greenberg led a USF faculty development program in Asturias to engage with Asturian scholars. The North American premier of an exhibition on four generations of the Alvarez family, Asturian immigrants to the United States, will open in the USF Tampa Library in October 2007. |
