Instructional Videos & Screencasts: Best Practices

Best practices and resources for librarians putting together tutorials, screencasts, and more

Welcome to the USF Instructional Video Committee Best Practices Libguide

This guide will serve as an introduction to the best practices for instructional video at the USF Libraries. Instructional video—as well as other types of online learning objects—can be a way for librarians to engage students without necessarily being in front of them in a classroom.

Top Tips

  • Don't try to do too much—quick videos work best when they focus on a few key ideas or points
  • Create a script but try to sound conversational
  • Pretend you're engaging an audience—no robot voice, no staring at your script if you are on camera
