This means that every day 3,000 people kill themselves. Further, every day, there are 60,000 persons who are unsuccessful suicides. In the United States there is a death by suicide every 16 minutes. Over the last four decades, suicide rates have increased by 60% worldwide. Suicide makes up 1.8% of the global burden of disease. World Suicide Prevention Day is 10 September.
