Important Note about Access to SciFinder Scholar

In order to access SciFinder Scholar, you must first register for an account. You may do so by choosing the link on the LibGuide for "SciFinder Registration". If you are already on the LibGuide page for SciFinder, these links are just below these instructions. This process is to help you to set up an individual profile, as well as logon on and password. You will only need to do this the first time you wish to access this resource. Once you have set up this profile, choose the second link below for "SciFinder Scholar Logon" and then you will be directed to logon with 1) your NetID and password from USF via our (new) authentication process and then 2) the individual username and password you have created for the resource. You will repeat this two step process for each additional time of access. If you have any questions, please contact your USF Libraries Chemistry Liaisons listed on the bottom left of this page.

How to Register and Access SciFinder

What is SciFinder Scholar?

SciFinder Scholar provides simple point and click access to the Chemical Abstracts Service databases:

  • Chemical Abstracts (1907-present)
  • Registry (1957-present)
  • CASREACT (1907-present for journals; 1982-present for patents)

No special training or knowledge of search command languages is required. Users may search more than 25 million citations to the chemistry literature by topic, author, CAS Registry Number, patent number, and CAS abstract number.

More than 27 million chemical substances may be searched by chemical name, chemical structure, CAS Registry Number, and formula. Information for over 10 million organic, organometallic, natural product and biocatalyzed reactions from the CASREACT database is included in SciFinder Scholar.
