St. Petersburg Data Literacy for Community Action (DLCA) is a community based project focusing on educating our community and non-profit leaders on understanding, finding, and using data to make positive policy changes in our local community. Focusing on data related to health behaviors, clinical care, social & economical factors, and physical environment a collaborative team of educators will work with the community in order to begin a process of understanding and using data effectively.
Presented by the University of South Florida Libraries, the Foundation For A Healthy St. Petersburg, and the St. Petersburg Library System, DLCA is focused on empowering citizens to advocate for equitable health outcomes through increased access to data literacy education.
This series of workshops is not focused on teaching statistics, rather it teaches you to think about data as a part of information, how to find, evaluate, and use data as well as data storytelling in different modes. Each session is stand-alone, though you may benefit from taking all four workshops, it's not required, and no math or data knowledge is required. We will have local experts teaching you how to use local data to solve local problems.
