Academic Writer [formerly APA Style Central]


The 7th edition of the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association was published in October 2019. Some departments and instructors may still be using the 6th edition. Please consult your instructor if you are unsure which edition to use. Please note that Academic Writer will not be updated to the 7th edition until the Fall 2020 semester.

What is Academic Writer?

Academic Writer, formerly APA Style CENTRAL® is a web-based application providing interactive tools to help students and faculty learn and apply APA Style®. It features point-of-need quick guides and video tutorials.  All of the content from the APA Publication Manual is included in Academic Writer .  The platform includes sample materials (references, papers, tables, and figures), self-quizzes, and tests that can assist in the teaching of APA Style®. 

Accessing Academic Writer

Academic Writer, formerly APA Style Central, requires that all USF students, staff, and faculty use their USF email address when creating a new account.

1. At the top right of the Academic Writer website, select "Welcome."

2. Use the drop down box to select Log In.

3. Select "Create an Account."

4. Use your USF email and choose a password. 

Make sure you are logged on to the USF campus network with your USF NetID, and click on the link below. 

I already have an account in APA Style Central

If you had an account in APA Style Central, your work will be saved, but it will now be accessed via Academic Writer.

Use your APA Style Central Login and Password to access your account in Academic Writer.
