In addition to Disney animation catalogs, illustrations, lithographs, cels, posters, calendars, newspapers, LPs and sheet music, the Mahan Collection of American Humor and Cartoon Art includes numerous non-Disney and political illustrations that depict American humor and cartoon art. While the earliest illustration in this collection is from 1838, its focus is the Golden Age of American Animation (1895-1945).
This collection consists of more than 450 panels of the “Muggs and Skeeter” cartoon drawn by Wallace Bond “Wally” Bishop, a longtime resident of St. Petersburg. Wally Bishop and his wife, Louise C. Bishop became leaders in a variety of social circles and cultural organizations in the greater St. Petersburg area.
The collection is organized into eleven alphabetically arranged series: Anthologies, Books, Comics, Correspondence, Courses, Essays, Lectures, Novelettes, Posters, Unpublished Manuscripts, and Videos. This collection primarily consists of typescripts, setting copies, and copyedited proofs of many of Harrison’s published and unpublished works as well as a small amount of correspondence. Coverage of short stories dates from 1964-1987; coverage of novels dates from 1996-2002; correspondence dates from 1972-2004. Editorial notation is prevalent throughout the collection.
Frederik Pohl, American science fiction writer, editor, and anthologist, was born in Brooklyn, New York on November 26, 1919. In a literary career spanning nearly seventy years, Pohl wrote more than 200 short stories and over 134 books, including 54 novels, 31 story collections, 1 graphic novel, and 6 nonfiction works, in addition to editing 42 anthologies. Greg Neri is an American author of young adult books, including free verse, prose, and graphic novels. Neri's books have won awards from organizations such as the American Library Association, the Simon Wiesenthal Center and the International Reading Association, as well as the Coretta Scott King honor. Neri resides in Tampa.
Comprises materials from six of her major works including draft and final typescripts of novels, autographed color and black and white sketches and prints, character sketches, thumbnails, watercolors, rough and final art, publishers proofs, as well as materials from short comics published in the New York Times and miscellaneous art. Final art preserves the artists working order.
