The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation currently makes grants in four core program areas: Higher Education and Scholarship, Scholarly Communications and Information Technology, Art History, Conservation, and Museums, and Performing Arts.

The Ford Foundation is an independent nonprofit grant-making organization. They offer grants in all 50 U.S. states and in many countries around the world. The chief interests include asset building and community development; knowledge, creativity and freedom; and peace and social justice.

The Institute of Museum and Library Services is the primary source of federal support for the nation’s 123,000 libraries and 17,500 museums.
