Data Literacy Teaching Toolkit

What is Data Literacy?

“Data literate students understand the different types of data and how to find reliable data, consider the source of the data as well as its purpose, determine if it is appropriate for a given context, and use data effectively for research and writing.” - Burress, Mann, Montgomery & Walton, 2021

Data literacy includes such skills as recognizing and understanding basic data types and formats, reading, interpreting and critically evaluating data and data sources, and integrating data into different contexts. Just as information literacy can be integrated across the curriculum, data literacy can be integrated into a variety of courses and disciplines.
