EndNote x9

What is EndNote?

EndNote is a bibliographic manager and citation tool. Use it to:

  • Import and store references  and PDFs from library databases
  • Import references for downloaded PDFs
  • Organize your references
  • Create bibliographies in thousands of styles
  • Integrate of bibliographies into Word and other word processing softwares.
  • Share references with research partners using EndNote Web

There are two versions of EndNote - a standalone desktop version and EndNote Online (also called EndNote Basic), a cloud based version. It is recommended that you install the desktop application, create an EndNote Online account and sync the two. EndNote Online serves as a cloud based backup to your desktop application.  This guide provides help for using EndNote x9 and EndNote Online

Although VPN is not required to use EndNote, it is recommended. Using USF VPN will help when fetching PDFs from the library's electronic journal collection.

USF students, faculty and staff members may obtain the desktop version for free through the USF Information Technology's online Software Catalog. EndNote x9 and EndNote 20 (released Nov 2020). Use the link below to access the catalog.

Previous Versions of EndNote

The library will continue to support our patrons using previous versions of Endnote (x8 and below) to the best of our abilities. However, we do recommend that those who are able to upgrade their software do so to take advantage of new features and functionality. If you have any concerns about upgrading, please contact us for assistance or consultation.
